In the scope of the 9th European Conference on Thermoelectrics we presented our research on layered sodium cobaltates aimed towards understanding chemical properties of these compunds. The focus was on evaluation of feasibility of using ceramics based on sodium cobaltates as p-type thermoelements in high-temperature thermoelectric modules. We found that dense ceramics can be synthesized in an oxygen atmosphere and that such ceramics are stable in air up to 930oC. However, the material reacts with water vapor, which causes its degradation in moist environments.
