This paper presents numerical simulation for press compaction of the powdered metal in a sintering process. Numerical simulation was done in Abaqus, utilizing Drucker-Prager Cap (DPC) model. Compaction simulated sample was a two level cylindrical component. Die and punches were modeled as a 2D analytically rigid shell. Position of the die was fixed, while the lower two punches were allowed to move in a vertical direction (direction of the compaction). Optimal results can be achieved, by optimizing the stroke properties of punches. To obtain realistic results, surface friction has been taken into account. Results of the simulation are variable magnitude density areas, distributed over a vertically split cross section of the cylindrical component.
