The focus in the monograph is on representations of the landscape and history, such as their appearance in various literary, professional, and scholarly texts. The result is nine aspects of the landscape: the landscape as a natural environment, the landscape and links with neighboring areas, the landscape as a living source, belonging to the landscape, alienation from the landscape, the landscape as a rural idyll, the gendered landscape, the landscape as accessibility and mobility, and the landscape as a rural-urban relation.

COBISS.SI-ID: 255245312The dissertation examines the consequences of natural disasters and the course of post-earthquake recovery in two neighboring countries that also represented two different sociopolitical systems. Of interest is also how post-earthquake recovery affected landscape structure. The sample cases are based on recovery after the earthquakes in Friuli and the Soča Valley in 1976, which struck a depopulated area in Slovenia and a similar area in Italy, where a Slovenian ethnic minority was also affected. Also taken into consideration were the Slovenian earthquakes of 1998 and 2004, which struck nearly the same area in the Soča Valley after Slovenia became independent and its sociopolitical system had changed. This is the first study that applies a comparative approach to post-earthquake recovery in Friuli and the Soča Valley.
