This chapter was published in "Biotechnology and Microbiology for Knowledge and Benefit" at the 20th anniversary of the Chair of Biotechnology, Microbiology and Food Safety. Production of safe food, free of foodborne pathogens is a scientific, social and economical challenge. In this regard, a pan-European collaboration known as PathogenCombat has been formed to establish novel platforms for fighting new and emerging pathogens in the entire food chain. This chapter highlights objectives, methods and unique achievements of the PathogenCombat project. In addition, a contribution of the Chair of biotechnology, microbiology and food safety is briefly described. The work presented a basis for further research in the postdoctoral project.
