Trials conducted at the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia in recent years were assessed in order to establish the comparative efficacy of different organic and chemical treatments against Varroa mites. The tested hives were equipped with metal sheets on to the hive floors in order to record natural mite mortality and mortality after treatments. The level of mite drop in each colony was recorded both before and after the treatments. The results indicate that OA, Timovar, Apiguard or Amitraz fumigation are of limited use during periods with brood. These levels of mite reduction were insufficient for all colonies to survive the winter. The possible use of OA and thymol based products against the varroa mite in honeybee colonies and complementary biotechnical, apicultural methods performed in the apiaries is discussed in the presentation.

COBISS.SI-ID: 3829608We performed questioner in the season 2010/11 and 2011/12 in order to get information on beekeeping activities in variety of professional matters: varroa control, used chemicals and methods, efficacy of mite control, bee nutrition, timing of feeding, food source, colonies mortality. The most used acariciede in 2010 was coumaphos, and oxalic acid. Approx. 5 % colonies died during the winter 2010/11 and 15 % reserve colonies. We published the booklet on beekeepers activities, and the topics included in the study are important for professional work of official advising service and for beekeepers.
