Slovenia has one of the highest rates of particleboards consumption per capita in Europe. Most of particleboards for use in Slovenia are imported from Austria, Czech Republic and Croatia. On the other hand particleboards produced in Slovenia are mainly exported to markets in Europe and Balkan. Particleboards consumption dropped down from 250.000 m3 in 2007 to 200.000 m3 in 2010 due to economic crisis in 2008 and 2009. Despite closures in furniture industry the consumption remains on high levels due to consumption in SME companies. OSB imports are increasing and reached 10.000 m3 level in 2010.

COBISS.SI-ID: 3302822Production of forest products is declining in last year’s. We are facing one of the biggest decline also in construction industries. Beside this wood products are facing strong competition with products from other materials and products coming from fast developing countries like China. In the sector of primary processing the biggest decline is seen in sown wood production, which is still an important sector in Slovenia. One of interesting indicator of decline in wood consumption is the ration between production and consumption of round wood, which is declining duo to increase in export. In last year the export has increased and reached 1 mil. m3 in year 2011.
