Deer is a very well studied species in the European area; however this is not the case for Slovenia, where surveys indicate that number of research dealing with deer is modest - despite the fact that our deer habitats are among the best preserved in Europe. In particular lack of scientific knowledge transfer to the domestic professional audience (e.g. population managers) is an important factor influencing optimal wildlife management (e.g., ignorance of methods to estimate population numbers and the monitoring of population dynamics, relatively large proportion of natural and unnatural losses in the whole of the annual withdrawal of species and important damages caused by deer in forests and agricultural areas).
