Planned and accomplished use of seed and seedlings in Slovenia for the years 2007 – 2011 is analysed. Additionally, problems such as how to ensure sufficient quantities of species rich, genetically and ecologically suitable seed and seedlings for restoration of forests after large-scale disturbances are presented. Given the presented problems, proposals on how to more easily ensure large enough quantities of appropriate seed and seedlings are offered.
F.18 Transfer of new know-how to direct users (seminars, fora, conferences)
COBISS.SI-ID: 3479974Publication of a series of technical guidelines for conservation of forest genetic resources (translations and slovenian additions) with forewords, which discuss selected current questions from the field, which is in Slovenian forest practice largely underestimated, since so far most regeneration in Slovenian forests is based on natural regeneration. However, in fast changing environmental conditions, regeneration with planting and sawing is increasingly gaining in importance, due to the possibility to use forest reproductive material of an improved genetic diversity, which enables long-term potential of future generation of forest trees to the changing environmental conditions.
F.24 Improvements to existing system-wide, normative and programme solutions, and methods
COBISS.SI-ID: 3382950Genetic diversity and structure of two approved seed and three non-seed stands of Fraxinus excelsior L. were analysed with nuclear microsatellites to get genetically based support for the use of its reproductive material in Slovenia. Genetic diversity was high (HE = 0.80) and differentiation between populations measured as FST (FST = 0.018) low to nonexistent when measured with genetic distances. Based on the analysis of five microsatellite loci, no restrictions for transferring forest reproductive material within the studied range can be presented.
