The meeting with workshop took place on 29th and 30th November 2011 in Razdrto upon initiative and organization by the project leader. Reason to organize this meeting were years of numerous debates about appropriateness of management of wild ungulates in the frame of problems connected with their influence on forest, as well as maintaining appropriate prey densities for endangered large carnivores and serving ecological and socio-economic roles (e.g. hunting) that wild ungulates have for the ecosystem and society. On the first day invited lectures presented basic knowledge on the issue and on the second day during moderated workshop we elaborated conclusions that were acceptable for all interest groups. The meeting was very well received by the attenders and contributed to improved management of wild ungulates and forest ecosystems as a whole, which was the goal of this project. Content of many presented lectures, as well as several workshop conclusions, originated from the content of this project, e.g. implementation of adaptive management of wild ungulates and monitoring of environmental parameters (sapling browsing).

COBISS.SI-ID: 3282598International meeting took place on 12th November 2011 in Velenje upon initiative and organization by members of the project team. Red deer is one of the most important game species in Slovenia and has important role in Slovenian hunting. During meeting, the most important results from red deer research in Slovenia and abroad were presented together with experiences from red deer management. In addition, focus of the future research studies was indicated, as well as potential improvements for management and monitoring (e.g. use of lower jaws as indicator of animal fitness). Since target audience were primarily hunters, the meeting importantly contributed to the motivation of hunters to participate in data collection and data transmission, as well as to their interest for direct cooperation in wildlife research. Data collected by hunters is an important source of information for scientific studies (including this project).

COBISS.SI-ID: 3473530Traditional international meeting on game management was organized on 22th November 2012 in Velenje by members of the project team. Chamois is one of the most important game species in Slovenia and has an important role in Slovenian hunting. During meeting, the most important results from chamois research in Slovenia and abroad were presented together with experiences from chamois management. In addition, main priorities of the future research on wildlife were indicated, as well as potential improvements for management and monitoring (including presentation on the variability of chamois and roe deer body masses as the main bioindicator used in the adaptive management of both species). Since the target audience were primarily hunters, the meeting importantly contributed to the motivation of hunters to participate in data collection and data transmission, as well as to their interest for direct cooperation in wildlife research. Data collected by hunters are not only an important source of information for scientific purposes (including this project); indeed, they provide also essential input information in the control method of effective adaptive management as well as its improvement in the future.
