Sources, losses and flow of N in Slovenian agriculture were estimated for the period 1991-2014. For the period 2010-2014, in relation to various farm operations, 15,344 t N was lost annually into the air with NH3, N2O, NOX and N2.The main proportion of these losses were contributed by the emissions of NH3 due to fertilization with livestock manures. Annual nitrogen losses from the agricultural soils into waters and air in the form of NO3-, NH4+, N2O, NOX and N2 amounted to 10,611 t N. The period 1991-2014 was characterized by a tendency of a decline in nitrogen loses from agriculture, while the amount of nitrogen in crop yields was increased

COBISS.SI-ID: 4879208European pig production faces a big challenge in the near future due to a strong initiative to abandon surgical castration of piglets. However, prior to ending of this widespread traditional practice in pig husbandry, a lot of potential problems need to be addressed in view of the adaptation of pig sector. It means that not only must boar taint issue be solved but also that meat technological quality will not be deteriorated. Two most viable alternatives to surgical castration will be reviewed with special emphasis on meat quality assurance.
