This master thesis deals with access modes and railway station choices of railway passenger in suburban environment in Slovenia. For understanding the factors of accessibility to stations we designed two models; the first predicts the determination of space accessibility to railway stations with analysis of impact areas (buffer analysis), and the second access modes and station choices with the tree logit model (nested logit model) from the GEV model group (generalized extreme value). We gathered the information for both models with direct interview surveys on railway stations. We wanted to determine existing preferences of passengers regarding their access modes and station choice (revealed preferences survey). With the tree logit model (nested logit model) we evaluated the influence of different factors of accessibility on selection of station choice or access modes. Understanding the factors that make passengers decide upon the choice of departure station and the access toward it, implies more practical suggestions for the management of railway passenger traffic policies.

COBISS.SI-ID: 17898774Everyone that travels makes a decision of choosing the most suitable means of transport. Passengers have different wishes and demands, different financial possibilities, some of them even despise certain means of transport, some are more sensitive about the delays etc. All these specialties are impossible to gather in exact equation, so we often use statistical methods in modelling the traffic. In that way we try to describe the average. This is then the solid base for judging the effects of measurements. In magister paper work there are laws and properties of choosing the transport for business passengers mentioned and for passengers with high VOT. Their time is valued in higher grade than average ones. To determine the way of getting to the airport we used multi-modal decision making with considering logistic distribution (logit). The equation was made and prepared on the case of the link between Ljubljana city and the airport of Jože Pučnik Ljubljana. We used four types of travelling in relation Ljubljana - airport of Jože Pučnik Ljubljana. (car as a driver, as co-driver, a bus, a taxi). Generalized costs of travelling were calculated on time values of 50.00 euros per hour. Logit equation was calibrated on basis of known modal split. Later on we analyzed the possibilities of including new offer (the train) in relation Ljubljana - airport of Jože Pučnik Ljubljana and its impact on choosing the means of transport. Theoretical response of passengers on various regimes of train connection was shown in few cases as well as changes of parking price. Being aware of all limits and simplification we finally prepared valid and used equation which has not been known or used in Slovenian traffic planning.
