COBISS.SI-ID: 22866662Massive capital inflows into the Balkan region in a pre-crisis period increased the indebtedness of non-financial companies, which resulted in a deep financial crisis. Banks as the main provider of funds for three analyzed countries (Croatia, Montenegro, and Slovenia) are considered, as their lending behavior played a significant role in the amplification mechanism. Using a large database of banks’ financial data and various macroeconomic indicators, we analyze what drives the supply of funds of banks to firms and households in the three countries throughout the boom (2007-2008), bust (2009-2010), and recovery (2011-2013) periods.
