Recently, research interests in environmental chemistry are focused at the occurrence and fate of residues of personal care products in the environment. Although their concentrations in the environment are typically in trace levels, they are sufficient to induce toxic effects on ecosystems as a result of chronic exposure. It is therefore important to obtain more information regarding their life cycle in the environment. An important class of personal care products is UV filters. Their widespread use and growing production leadsto the increased entry of these compounds into the environment. Despite their potential adverse effects on people and the environment, their occurrence has not been extensively investigated yet. The goal of our research is to expand the knowledge of the presence, life cycle and fate of UV filters in the environment.

COBISS.SI-ID: 74788609Ph.D. describes biological treatment, hydrodynamic cavitation and UV treatment as a method for wastewater treatment of wastewaters contaminated with pharmaceutical residues. Ms. Zupanc evaluated the efficiency of single processes as well as their sequences for removing micropollutants, e.g. pharmaceutical residues, from wastewaters.
