Meteorological and air pollution quality database has been designed and built. Database contains measured half-hourly and hourly values from 13 automatic air quality measuring stations distributed across Slovenia and maintained by Slovenian Environmental Agency for the time period of 2 years (2012 and 2013). Additionally it contains also half-hourly prognostic data from meteorological model WRF maintained by MEIS and prognostic air quality data from QualeAria air pollution modelling system for time period of 2 years (2012 and 2013). For all parameters also different statistical processing (8-hour moving daily, monthly and annual values) has been built according to decree of air quality.
F.16 Improvements to an existing information system/databases
The team from MEIS company cooperates for three years in the international programme MODARIA from International Atomic Energy Agency IAEA in the section for air-pollution modelling. They have used their comprehensive knowledge from the field, which is also result of the present project, for preparing the MODARIA’s section final report. The results were highly appreciated and resulted in activities proposal for the next three years. The proposal contained enhanced validation of air-pollution forecasting models. The proposal was accepted with great interest and was placed as official activity for the current three-year programme.

COBISS.SI-ID: 29164583Neural network model was implemented on an embedded computer, which had less computational capabilities than regular personal computers. Embedded computers are important in applications where constraints of electric power exist or they operate in extreme environment, e.g., extremely low and high temperatures, high relative humidity. This implementation enables online use of the model in the environment where measurements take place. This implementation is now being tested with the model of diffuse solar radiation at the regular meteorological station. The next step is the use of this embedded-computer implementation with power consumption less than 2 W for online forecasting of ozone pollution at places where measurements take place.

The paper in the popular daily newspaper Delo describes the significance of ozone-pollution forecasting for planning activities in countryside and for reduction of health damage caused by ozone. Ozone itself, its negative influence on human’s health, the procedure of ozone forecasting, the estimation of air quality and publication of data on a public web site http://www.kvalitetazraka.si are described for a general public. The purpose of the publication is informing the general public about the new media that makes forecasts of air pollution in Slovenia with ozone and other pollutants available online more comprehensively and in greater detail. Major enhancements are two new indices available for entire Slovenia at spatial resolution 12 km x 12 km and time resolution of 1 hour: AQI index that shows the impact of ozone on air quality and health and AQHI index that shows the impact of air quality on health.
F.18 Transfer of new know-how to direct users (seminars, fora, conferences)
COBISS.SI-ID: 27973415Client-server environmental information presentation system designed and built by MEIS has been upgraded. It contains advanced data processing tools and air quality database. User interface of this client-server system has been upgraded to achieve best intuitive level. Tools for 2D presentations of ozone forecasts have been added for presentation of air pollution ground concentrations. In addition the possibility of additional settings to adjust the presentation legend for further analysis has been added.
