The topic of this is dedicated to currently very important problem in pig production, the future ban on surgical castration and potential alternatives to this practice will give rise to several important new issues including boar taint, adaptations of rearing conditions, consumer acceptance and product quality. Current state of the art regarding the two alternatives (entire males and immunocastrates) were reviewed from several points of view with an emphasis on meat quality.

COBISS.SI-ID: 3960876A part of the wider research of the effect of tannin supplementation on histological traits of porcine intestinal tract was presented. Supplementation of different concentrations of tannin extract (1%, 2%.3%) was shown to have potentially beneficial effects on duodenum resorption due to increased villi height and perimeter and increased mucosa thickness (indicating potential benefits for higher resorptive capacity). At the same time, no negative effects of tannin supplementation was observed.
