Preliminary results, obtained during a two year survey in Slovenia, were presented. Special attention was on Melampsora rusts, infecting willows and poplars. This scientific contribution was also presented as oral presentation at the conference.

Scientific contribution was lectured at 13th slovenian conference on plant protection with international participation and will be published in the accompanying booklet. New rust findings for Slovenia are presented: Melampsoridium hiratsukanum and Phragmidium mexicanum.
Phylogenetic placement of Melampsora samples from willows and poplars (sampled in 2014-2016) together with morphological characteristics (urediniospores - length, density and length of spines) is presented together with the program tool Measure features!. The diversity of Melampsora rusts in Slovenia (Melampsora) is put in the broader context of Melampsora presence in Europe. Special attention is on (non)variabilty of Melampsora rusts on willows, also on dwarf willows sampled in high mountain range.
Acquired bioinformatic and phylogenetic expertise was successfully implemented in the research of unknown disease agent, causing unusual disease symptoms on Picea glauca in Arboretum Volčji Potok. Based on morphological and molecular phylogenetic analyses together with the performed pathogenicity trial, we identified the causal agent of the observed symptoms as Rhizoctonia butinii – a recently described species. This report connects this fungus to a new locality and a new host plant. Project leader is a leading and corresponding author of this publication.

Acquired bioinformatic and phylogenetic expertise was successfully implemented in the calculation of phylogenetic relationships among Dothiorella species. Publication is a result of common research between South Africa (FABI) and Slovenia (Slovenian Forestry Institute, B. Piskur). New host-Dothiorella associations are reported.
