The paper is based on the manuscripts of Neža Rejec and cover the time period between 1900 and 1950. Rumours, discussions and viewpoints from her social surroundings are all intertwined in her writings, thus offering unique insight into various aspects of World War I as well as the times that followed and preceded it.

COBISS.SI-ID: 62726754In 1914, according to the emperor’s decision, civilians involved in crimes against persons and property were subjected to military courts if such crimes had been committed in detriment of the military personnel or goods. As argued by some authors, Austo-Hungarian military courts distinguished themselves with an inglorious ‘efficiency’, in the paper we present criminal records available at the State Archive in Trieste, which processed women at the military court in the light of demographical statistic, variety of criminal acts and strictness of penalties if compared to those of men.
