Study includes determination of the stability of milling tools from different basic carbide materials at treatment of tool steel in the soft state. It also includes the monitoring and classification of the chips during milling and monitoring surface roughness.
F.01 Acquisition of new practical knowledge, information and skills
COBISS.SI-ID: 14233883In the master thesis a comprehensive literature overview, of domestic and foreign scientific papers, on cutting edge micro geometry preparation and vibratory polishing, is performed. This includes analysis of procedures for the cutting tool edge micro geometry preparation. Based on this an experimental setup for vibratory polishing of cutting tools has been developed. Besides polishing of the cutting tools, also the machining performance of cutting tools has been experimentally verified, by analyzing tool-wear and cutting forces. Machined has been cast steel 1.2333 with carbide end mills. Based on results, the correlation between cutting edge radius/micro geometry and cutting forces with tool-life is performed.
F.01 Acquisition of new practical knowledge, information and skills
COBISS.SI-ID: 13978651In the theoretical part of this graduate paper, the widely known facts about the milling are presented. More information is presented with ball-end milling cutter, material machinability, wear and tool life, surface roughness and shapes of chips, the results of which we are most interested in at the end. The purpose of the experimental work was that the four set of cutters of the same geometry (they differ in grain size and the type of material) determine the ability of the milling tool steel in the soft state. A ball-end milling cutters made of carbide steel was used. Through experimental work surface roughness, wear and tool life was measured and the shape of chips was observed. Experimental work was carried out at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Ljubljana, more specifically at work space of the laboratory LABOD. Analysis of the results and findings of the test are presented in figures and tables, along with given findings in relation to the theoretical knowledge of machining. In the conclusion of the graduate paper, author opinion about the research is given.
