On January 12, 2017, the Department of Animal Science in the Biotechnical Faculty conducted education for goat breeders. It was organized by the BF, Department of Animal Science and the Association of small ruminants breeders in Slovenia. The lectures included topics that are currently among the most current in the case of goat breeders. Among the participants, there were more than 50 breeders and experts in the field of goat breeding. Five topics were presented. Assist. prof. Manja Zupan, Ph.D. presented the assessment of the welfare in goats. She explained the meaning of the term "animal welfare", which conditions have to be in order to ensure the welfare of the animals and what the consequences might be if they are ignored. As an example of the protocol used and the free AWINGoat application, preliminary results of the assessment of goat welfare within the CRP project "Organic and Conventional Farming System for Goat Milk Production" were presented. The results of the ethological study showed that the evaluation of most studied indicators of goats welfare in both conventional and organic farming was consistent with the assessment of the reference population. At the end of each lecture, a discussion was held in which farmers raised a number of questions related to the themes presented.
