In a professional publication (the bulletin of breeders of autochthonous breeds), the key findings of the project are presented. The emphasis is given to the measures / steps for more efficient market valorization of local breeds.
F.25 Development of new organisational structures and managerial solutions
COBISS.SI-ID: 4027016The contribution at the expert meeting (annual meeting of the agricultural advisory service) presents the possibility of adding value to agricultural products through processing and direct sale on the farm. Among the attributes of adding value in the processing of foods of animal origin, exposure of (Slovenian indigenous) breeds of animals is also exposed.
F.12 Improvements to an existing service
COBISS.SI-ID: 3999368The concept of ecosystem services (ES) in agriculture was presented to the members of sheep breeders' association. In the case of two breeds (Bela Krajina pramenka and Krško polje Pig), ecosystem services were also characterized. The contribution further represents the (unexploited) market potential and the wider social relevance of ES of autochthonous breeds.
F.05 Ability to launch new technological development cycle
COBISS.SI-ID: 3664264The article describes the results of field research carried out in the Solčava region. In it, together with local actors, we identified two products of agriculture and forestry, typical for this area, and whose market potential is not fully exploited - mountain wood and autochthonous breeds (Solčava-Jezersko sheep, Cika cattle). The study deals with the possibilities of more efficient market valorization of these two products.
F.12 Improvements to an existing service
COBISS.SI-ID: 4037768The Master thesis aims to provide an insight into the motives, goals and perspectives of breeders of domestic breeds of domestic animals in Slovenia, thereby contributing to more effective strategies for the conservation of animal genetic resources in the future. The findings are based on the results of a survey involving 301 farmers, including breeders of Slovenian indigenous and traditional breeds. We have found that Slovene breeders most often decide on the breeding of autochthonous breeds of domestic animals due to the quality of products. Among the most important environmental and other social benefits of autochthonous breeds, they emphasize the tradition of products. The list of motifs is longer, the motifs are more complex and different from the groups considered. As a reason for the conservation of these breeds, Slovenian breeders do not put the amount of support in the foreground, which is in line with the findings of similar surveys in other countries. In order to increase production, farmers would be most encouraged by the 'regulated market' in their assessment. The possibilities of market valorization of indigenous breeds of products are poorly exploited in Slovenia, with some rare exceptions.
