The aim of the Master’s Thesis is to determine the knowledge and understanding of the concepts related to the circulation of substances in nature of pupils aged 8, 11 and 14 years. For this purpose an e-learning unit adapted to each age group of children was created. Consideration of the content results from the integration of macroscopic properties of individual aggregate states with their interpretation on the level of submicroscopic particles.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1571676When pupils study chemistry they come across with many data and information. Pupils try to remember them, think about them and use them in new situations, so it is important that teachers help pupils and lead then through learning and studying chemistry data and information. On the other hand, teachers need to recognize and take into account different types of cognitive and learning styles among students. However it is very important that student’s mental structure is built on their prior knowledge and that lessons are based on motivation and effective learning strategies. Guided active learning chemistry (GALC) is a learning strategy in which students in the experimental group actively participated in collaborative learning chemistry. Learning through GALC students develop mental models of concepts by self-organized work which is adapted to the individual abilities of the group. If pupils want to achieve goals set by the individual study units, their research must design different levels of specific conclusions. In eighth grade we investigated the effects of innovation of teaching chemistry to understanding the properties of elements and their compounds at three levels. At the same time we investigated pupils' attitudes towards chemistry, how they learn chemistry, what is their view on learning in a group and what is their real or ideal opinion about chemistry. The study was designed as an experimental educational research. Participating pupils from elementary schools were divided into two groups, control and experimental, according to the section they were attending. Pupils, acquainted with the contents of GALC learning strategy, have showed us a statistically significant difference in the real opinion on the teaching of chemistry in the three dimensions of students' views on motivating learning environment. Pupils learned it’s important to associate chemical concepts. They also showed us a statistically significant better view of the real and ideal teaching of chemistry in some dimensions that are described in the work, than the students who were not taught by GALC learning strategy.
