The research group participated in the FP7 EU project ORCHID at the Faculty of Pharmacy. The project started on 1.1.2011 and has finished on 30.6.2015. The funding for the Faculty of Pharmacy was 680 000 Euro. The aim of this EU project was development of new small-molecule inhibitors of InhA to target tuberculosis. The coordinator of the project was pharmaceutical company Glaxo Smith Kline. The research group participates in Marie Sklodowska Curie ETN INTEGRATE (Interdisciplinary Training Network for Validation of Gram-Negative Antibacterial Targets; duration from 1.1.2015 till 31.12.2018). In the frame of this project early stge researcher Michaela Barančokova from the Czech Republic has been performing her research towards PhD degree at the UL Faculty of Pharmacy since 1st October 2015. The funding for the UL Faculty of Pharmacy is 234.998 Euro.

COBISS.SI-ID: 3815025In cooperation with pharmaceutical industry we have developed synthetic procedures for preparation of chiral compounds which are useful for preparation of antidiabetics, preferably sitagliptin – a drug for treatment of diabetes mellitus type 2 . Individual synthetic steps have been optimized using ecologically friendly reagents and sitagliptine synthesis has been realized using new intermediates and synthetic procedures. The inovation introduces »green« catalytic processes for the company. In addition, company’s independent synthesis of generic active ingredients facilitates the provision of high-quality medicines (including Sitagliptin) in Slovenia at a significantly lower price. This inovation won two awards in 2016 from Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia – Gloden Innovation Award from Slovenia's central region and National CCIS's 2016 Golden Innovation Award (https://eng.gzs.si/Portals/English/Vsebine/novice-priponke/ katalog_inovacije_2016_ENG_zlati_v2_web.pdf, COBISS ID 4222065)

COBISS.SI-ID: 1517660In the period between January 2015 - February 2017, members of the research group were involved in radio, television and printed interviews, and in addition were the authors and co-authors of four printed popular science monographs. The most representative is a book “Sodobna kozmetika : sestavine naravnega izvora” (1), which represents the natural ingredients used in the manufacture of cosmetic products. The book “Zavetnika lekarnarjev in zdravnikov sv. Kozma in Damjan v slovenski umetnosti” (2) presents the general public with the artistic depictions of very popular saints and patrons of health workers in the area of today's Slovenia. “Znanstveno-kritičen pogled na komplementarno in alternativno medicine” (3, 4), as is already evident from the name of the two volume book, presents a rational overview of the different methods of complementary and alternative medicine, viability and risks of using each method, written for lay and professional public. In scientific monograph “Šumi življenja ali Radikali in druge reaktivne snovi v telesu” the significance of the radicals and other reactive species on the biochemical processes in the body and the role of antioxidants are presented a popular way. Contributions to the media can be divided into those that are associated with the advice on the use of certain categories of medicines, dietary supplements and cosmetic products (6-11). In addition, excellent scientific research achievements of the research group were presented for the general public (12-18).
