We developed VizEMO-Steel, a program for optimization of continuous casting of steel and visualization of results. The optimization variables are process parameters, and the objectives the product quality indicators for which deviations from their target values need to be minimized. The optimization is performed by an evolutionary algorithm, while the solutions are evaluated by a numerical simulator of the manufacturing process. The program is designed as a web application that is used by the Štore Steel company to optimize the continuous steel casting process and visualize the results.

COBISS.SI-ID: 28447015CodeQ is a freely available web application for teaching programming through exercises. Besides a collection of carefully prepared programming exercises, CodeQ offers automatic testing of the correctness of solutions, an interpreter to run instructions, queries, and programs, and foremost the ability to provide immediate feedback tailored specifically for the individual student. Feedback is provided by an advanced expert module that draws hints, advice and other information from various sources. Apart from predefined explanations and clues, the module uses a state-of-the-art method for automatic detection and correction, through automatic program synthesis, of common programming errors based on the analysis of previously submitted solutions to the exercises. Currently, CodeQ is available for the languages Prolog and Python.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1536697027We developed a methodology for generating a plausible simulation of a basketball match between two distinct teams. Simulations are generated using a random walk through a state space. The main idea of our approach is to extend the state description to capture the current context in the progression of a game, such as game time, the points difference, and the opposing teams’ characteristics. Empirical evaluation shows that the proposed model outperforms the state-of-the-art in terms of forecasting accuracy and in terms of the plausibility of the generated simulations.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1536469955Horizon 2020 project HeartMan, which we coordinate, was accepted. The total value of the project is 3.3 million EUR, and it has nine partners from five European countries. The project will develop a personal health system for congestive heart failure. It will consist of a mobile application connected to various health devices. Its core will be a decision support system for the patients, which will use predictive models to predict the expected course of disease and recommend appropriate actions. The system will include a computer-based cognitive behavioral therapy, which will help the patients adjust their lifestyle.

COBISS.SI-ID: 29875495Automated essay evaluation represents a practical solution to a time-consuming, labor-intensive and expensive activity of manual grading of students' essays. In this paper we provide comparison of 21 state-of-the-art approaches for automated essay evaluation and highlight their weaknesses and open challenges in the field. We conclude with the findings that the field has developed to the point where the systems represent a useful complement (not replacement) to human scoring.
