P3-0395 — Annual report 2017
1.
Coordination and leading of international projects related to medicine/nutrition/food, for example FP7/REDICLAIM

Members or programme group are involved in planning and co-leading international research projects (e.g. the EU funded FP7 programme), which contribute to the scientific state of the art, stimulate the exchange of expertise and flow of hosting researchers, and also include corporate researchers/experts. Just an exaple for programme leader: I. Pravst: WP leader of the EU-funded project FP7/HEALTH.2013.4.1-2/REDICLAIM, which focuses on disease risk reduction health claims on foods (WP4 leader: “Reduction of disease risk” claims and health claims substantiation process). REDICLAIM (Understanding the impact of legislation on "REduction of DIsease risk" CLAIMs on food and drinks) seeks to understand the ways in which the European Regulation has had and continues to have an impact on the substantiation and use of "reduction of disease risk" claims on food and drinks. The project also includes an assessment of the possible impact of the use of health claims on public health.

D.01 Chairing over/coordinating (international and national) projects

COBISS.SI-ID: 39303941
2.
Proven mentorship in graduation and doctoral theses, flow of young researchers (Example: PhD: Influence of nutrition and health claims and symbols on consumer's food choice)

Members of the program group are teachers with academic habilitations, which actively collaborate as mentors and in the flow of young researchers (also as part of SRA funding), and collaborate as hosting researchers/invited lecturers. Group members are also active internationally in both research projects and as invited lecturers at foreign universities and scientific conferences.

D.09 Tutoring for postgraduate students

COBISS.SI-ID: 4791672
3.
Incorporation of research results into policies related to health/nutrition/food; Collaboration in boards which are important for progress and development of science

Members of the programme group are very active in providing support to the government to enable evidence-based decisions. For example, I. Pravst and U. Blaznik have been members of the National Board for Food Safety and C. Hlastan Ribič is a coordinator of the work of the national inter-ministerial working group for implementing the objectives of the national salt reduction action plan. Member of the programme group collaborated with Ministry of health in preparation of short-term Action plan for conduction of National programme on nutrition and physical activity for health, until end 2018, which includes the participation of the state via professional public health institutions, the food industry and catering facilities and consumer awareness of the problems related with foods and nutrition.

F.24 Improvements to existing system-wide, normative and programme solutions, and methods

4.
Collaboration in public and professional polemics and discussions (i.e. "Dual stadards in food quality in Europe" and "Mit or fact: where to find reliable Food-related information on the interet?"

Members of programme group are active in professional polemics and discussions, related to their work (i.e. collaboration in critical discussions about nutrition and food policy decisions), in promoting of science and their research work in the general public, and collaborate with the media. Several press releseases were published and press conferencess were organised in 2017 (https://www.nutris.org/o-institutu/152-sporocila-za-javnost.htm), resulting in hundreds of media articles. Because of so extensive collaboration with mass media, only selected articles are included to COBISS bibliography.

F.18 Transfer of new know-how to direct users (seminars, fora, conferences)

COBISS.SI-ID: 4766328
5.
Collaboration in projects for innovations in industry: Development of new technologies/functional foods (i.e. collaboration in Food4Future programme)

Members of project group are supporting the industry in development of healthier foods. An example of this is collaboration in national R&D programme Food4Future, worth over 6 mio EUR. In this programme, our researchers also have leading roles (I. Pravst: work package leader, K.Žmitek: Task leader).
