We have developed a phenological model for Ips typograhus, i.e. the most economically harmful insect in forestry. We implemented the phenological model RITY-2 in two web applications that enable performing a query for any point in Slovenia and a spatial presentation. The system enables the rationalization of population density monitoring of Ips typographus, which is performed with control traps and pheromone baits. Consequently, the forecasts of outbreaks are more reliable and more accurate together with less economic consequences.
F.11 Development of a new service
COBISS.SI-ID: 5312166We developed an electronic information system for the collection of data on invasive alien species (IAS), which includes a desktop, web and mobile application and connects several existing information systems that already collect information about IAS in Slovenia. We successfully convinced a large number of citizen scientists. With the established data verification system via photos, we have raised the level of reliability and accuracy of such data. The information system is one of the key elements of the early detection and rapid response system.
F.11 Development of a new service
COBISS.SI-ID: 4793766The present invention refers to an increment borer used to extract a section of wood tissue from a living wood for dendrochronology researches, in particular to a motorized increment borer preferable driven by means of a hand-held electric power engine. A known hand-held increment borer comprise a tubular drill shaft formed at the free end thereof with a square projection to engage a handle. Said handle is fixed to said drill shaft by means of a locking bar that cooperates with a suitable cut on the free end of the drill shaft. Afterwards, the increment borer assembled as described before is driven in a clock-wise direction into a live wood, and is driven in the opposite direction out of the live wood. In order for the increment borer to be driven in the wood an electric power engine is often used, said handle must be separated from the drill shaft and the latter is to be fixed by means of an accessory into a chuck of the electric power engine. Nevertheless, problems occur with such a work, since the electric power engine is not capable of driving the increment borer deep enough in the live wood. Even bigger problems occur during driving the borer out of the live wood, since said accessory is simply stuck to the drill shaft resulting in a fact that is not possible to turn the drill shaft and pull it out of the wood simultaneously. Therefore, the electric power engine must be disconnected from the drill shaft and replace by said handle in order for the drill shaft to be driven out of the live wood. Working in the described manner is rather difficult, and breakdowns of the connection between the handle and the drill shaft are frequent. It is the object of the present invention to create an accessory with an increment borer, which will remedy the drawbacks of the known solutions. It is provided for, according to the present invention, that said increment borer comprises an accessory formed as a cylindrical cup with a bottom and a wall, a projection for cooperation with an electric power engine being coaxially associated with said bottom outside said cup, and a cylindrical projection for cooperation with a shaft of a borer is coaxially associated with said bottom inside said cup, said being formed in the direction averted from the bottom with a diametrically opposite lying oval recesses.

COBISS.SI-ID: 3367590Decision-making tools must be built to optimize the investments in forest infrastructures required for a cost-effective wood supply while securing the sustainable management of forests, and to support the implementation of an efficient European policy for mountain forest management. This is one of the Alpine Space Programme’s aims, which seeks "to overcome the disadvantages of location factors and to promote the Alpine Space as a dynamic economic region in Europe". In order to propose adapted, efficient and pragmatic responses to this technical and economical context, the project NEWFOR (NEW technologies for a better mountain FOResttimber mobilization) was built up by a consortium including researchers and managers from the 6 alpine space countries. The key aim of this project was the improvement of mountain forest accessibility for a better efficiency of wood harvesting and transport in a context of sustainable forest management and wood industry in changing climate. This general objective has been fulfilled by creating, testing and transferring adaptable, robust support decision making tools dedicated to mountain forests management.
