EU and US patents were issued to protect an innovation on use of modified lactobacteria for treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases. The patents protect displaying various non-Ig scaffolds on lactobacteria and their use for binders of cytokines IL-17, IL-23 and TNF? which were simultaneously displayed on Lb. salivarius. L. lactis, displaying TNF? binder, mediated similar effect as monoclonal antibody infliximab in a mouse model of colitis.

The conference was attended by many respected scientists and by the leaders of FEBS. The leader of the project group prof. Janko Kos was a president of the Scientific Committee and editor of the conference monography.

The results of last seven years were considered for evaluation. The government of the Republic of Slovenia delivered in 2015 Zois prize also to prof. dr. Borut Štrukelj for excellent research achievements in biotechnology. Zois award is the highest honour for research work in the Republic of Slovenia.

A method of protecting a plant from insect or nematode infestation is disclosed herein. The method includes the steps of inserting into the genome of cells or tissue from a plant a sequence coding for equistatin operably linked to a promoter sequence active in the plant to cause expression of the protein at levels which provide an insect or nematode control and plant regeneration Also disclosed is a transgenic plant which is resistant to attack by one or more insects or nematodes having digestive cysteine proteases. The patent was licenced to a multinational company.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1746033Prof. Janko Kos was an organizer of 4th conference CITIM, which was ongoing in April 27-30, 2015 in Ljubljana. 170 the most prominent researchers in the field attended the conference. At the conference the newest results on immunotherapy were presented as well as directions towards further basic research and clinical applications. The organisation of this conference is an aknowledgement to the results our goup gained in the field. Prof. Kos also presented our results as invited lecturers.
