The lecture presented the changed dynamics in elevations to nobility in the 17th century and antagonisms between citizenry and nobility in Carniolan cities during the same period. It was given at an international conference 17th Century Conference: Cities and Citizenship, organised by the University in Durham, United Kingdom, and contributed to a better and more comprehensive understanding of cities and citizenry in the 17th century within a wider European area.

COBISS.SI-ID: 38653229The series of round tables titled “Gradovi na razpotju” (“Castles at a Crossroads”) sheds light on the problem of Slovenian castle heritage and renders it accessible to a broader public. Every round table focuses on one of the most endangered Slovenian castles and attempts, with the help of different participating experts, to point at possible solutions to remedy its situation. In 2015 round tables focused on presenting the castles Šrajbarski turn, Krumperk and Haasberg, whereas in 2016 the approach to the subject was more complex. One of the round tables was dedicated to the castles in private hands, the second one pointed out the difference between complete and partial renovations of castles, whereas the third one showed how the castle heritage in preserved in the Slovenian neighbourhood – in Austrian Carinthia, in Gorizia Region in Italy and in Croatian Istria.

COBISS.SI-ID: 39964717The lecture presents the development of hospitals in Europe, with an emphasis on changes that began to occur during the period of Enlightenment. What were initially multifunctional welfare and social institutions transformed into specialised healthcare institutions in the 19th century. Three aspects of the development of hospitals are highlighted, namely, healthcare, social and architectural. A comparison between the development of the major Viennese hospital Allgemeines Krankenhaus, which became the centre of the Viennese medical school and one of the important European healthcare centres in the 19th century, and the development of Carniola’s most important Provincial Civilian Hospital in Ljubljana sheds light on the differences and similarities between the healthcare centre and the periphery. The invited lecture was delivered to undergraduate students of history at the Faculty of Arts in Pula, Croatia.

COBISS.SI-ID: 8221696On the 100th anniversary of the death of Emperor Franz Joseph, a symposium was organised with the main aim of presenting the Slovenian perspective on the sovereign’s life and work. The contributors presented a new and unique view of the period between 1830 and 1916. The long rule of Franz Joseph brought Slovenes many changes in social, political and, of course, everyday life. The result of the conference was a monograph on the emperor, which was issued by the Cankarjeva založba publishing house and received a major reception. The monograph is not only the first scientific work on the emperor to be exclusively compiled by Slovenian researchers, but also an illustrative example of the programme group’s orientation by reflecting a response to the current anniversary, eliminating the grey area in Slovenian historiography and contributing to the knowledge of Slovenian past, which formed an integral part of European historical currents. http://zimk.zrc-sazu.si/sl/dogodki/franc-jozef-in-njegovo-stoletje-1830-1916#v
