Roman Kuhar is an associated editor of Social politics (Oxford University Press) since 2016. Social Politics is the journal for incisive analyses of gender, politics and policies in an international context. The journal's mission is to stimulate cross-fertilisation in scholarship in the social sciences, with gender and intersectional perspectives to the fore. Of core interest are the restructuring of capitalisms and states as well as cultural and normative shifts, and the implications of associated changes for work, families, care, migration, politics, and development.

COBISS.SI-ID: 288688384The lecture presented some of the stereotypes about Islam and Muslims in EU, Slovenia and in the Balkans, with the emphasis on national mythologies and racism. The reason for the negative attitude towards Islam as the European “Other” could be found in the Western prejudice towards Islam, as well as in its fear of “Other/Different” which can be traced back for centuries. Special attention was paid to the interrelated system of myths shows Slavic Muslims as betrayers of Christian faith (even murderers of Christ) and their own nation. This “Christo-Slavic” mythology is based on three closely connected myths, formed in the 19th century and expose some consequences of this stereotypical perception of the “Other” and “Different”.

Emma Nardi, member of the International Board of ICOM, and lecturer at the »Dipartimento di Scienze della Formazione of the University of Roma Tre (Rome), Dr. Kaja Širok gave a lecture at the University cycle of lectures "International Perspectives of European museums: the project EMME: EuroVision Museums Exhibiting Europe". Dr. Širok collaborates with the department for four years now, within the EU founded project EMEE: http://www.museums-exhibiting-europe.de In her lecture dr. Širok presented best practices of Slovenian museums and highlighted the project EU.Lab, where she researched participative involvment of young adults in setting up an European-oriented exhibitions in National museums. Following this lecture Dr. Širok about published an article in a monograph curated by prof. Nardi.

Editors and co-authors note that civic education is not just the matter of the classroom but the combination of formal learning efforts and collecting of experiences in different contexts and lifecycles. Authors introduce the necessary conditions for the successful acquisition of civic competencies of young people which are a necessary step for the development of any democratic community.
