COBISS.SI-ID: 25342464Project group members Dragan Marušič and Tomaž Pisanski are chairs of the local scientific committee, respectively the local program committee of the 8th European Congress of Mathematics, which will be held in Slovenia in July 2020. Several other members of the project (Klavdija Kutnar - deputy chair, Ademir Hujdurović, Boštjan Kuzman, Martin Milanič, Dragan Stevanović) are members of the organizing committee of the congress. European Congress of Mathematics is the second largest mathematical event in the world, after the International Congress of Mathematics and is organized every 4 years. More than 1,000 mathematicians usually take part in it. Based on the candidature, the organization of the 8th congress was given to Slovenia by the Council of the European Mathematical Society in June 2016. The candidature was launched by UP FAMNIT in collaboration with UP IAM, UL FMF, UL PEF, UM FNM and all other organisations active in the field of mathematics in Slovenia, supported also by the MIZŠ, ARRS, SAZU, and Slovenian Rectors' Conference.
