Control over double refraction was demonstrated by using nematic metamaterials with positive-negative refractive eigen-indices. The work is now also submitted for publication in a full research article. This invited presentation was given at one of the work largest conferences in the general field of optics and photonics Photonics West 2017 (cca 26k participants).

COBISS.SI-ID: 3063908We organised the 6th Workshop on Liquid Crystals for Photonics which took place from 14th – 16th September 2016 in Ljubljana, Slovenia at the Jozef Stefan Institute. The workshop of cca70 participants was co-organized by the Jozef Stefan Institute and the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the University of Ljubljana, by the Group for Physics of Soft and Partially Ordered Matter. The aim of the Workshop on Liquid Crystals for Photonics was to bring together a forum of world first class scientists, in particular physicists, chemists and engineers, involved in photonic applications of liquid crystals. The workshop encompassed the state of the art in photonics using liquid crystals and composite materials.

COBISS.SI-ID: 3011428The members of the project group were awarded a US patent from the topic of the project, protecting the design of spherical micro-laser
F.32 International patent
COBISS.SI-ID: 24447015Two PhD theses (Jure Aplinc and Shun Wang ) and 2 MSc theses (Urban Mur in Jaka Pišljar) were awarded and also supported by the project, contributing to the quality of unviersity education in Slovenia and to the growth of human potential.

COBISS.SI-ID: 3207524Project PI M. Ravnik was co-awarded the research programme The mathematical design of new materials at the Isaac Newton Institute (INI) at the University of Cambridge, UK [https://www.newton.ac.uk/event/dnm]. The awarded programme is a distinct recognition of scientific excellence, as the regular invited-only participants are scientists of highest rank, including Nobel prize and Abel prizewinners. The programme financially covers hosting of 120 person-months at INI and organisation o4 4 conference and 1 spring school.
