The project leader was appointed as a mentor of 13 completed MSc and BSc theses of seven students from Biotechnical faculty (University of Ljubljana), two students from the Pedagogical faculty (University of Ljubljana) and four biotechnology students from the University of Rijeka, Croatia. All these theses are tightly connected to the thematic of the project J4-7162, and deal with: 1) investigation of interactions of aegerolysins from fungi and bacteria with artificial lipid systems, in regard to the membrane lipid composition (membrane binding and membrane permeabilization with aegerolysin/ MACPF-protein complexes) [COBISS.SI-ID 4894799], [COBISS.SI-ID 9009273], [COBISS.SI-ID 3993935], [COBISS.SI-ID 4065615], [COBISS.SI-ID 3613263], [COBISS.SI-ID 4033103], [COBISS.SI-ID 4090191]; 2) investigation of interactions of aegerolysins from the fungal genus Pleurotus with cell membranes [COBISS.SI-ID 11725897], [COBISS.SI-ID 11725641]; 3) serch for new aegerolysins in aqueous extracts of various Ascomycota and Basidiomycota [COBISS.SI-ID 4579407], [COBISS.SI-ID 4579663]; 4) toxic effects of aegerolysins against target insects [COBISS.SI-ID 4895311] and 5) elucidation of the function of bacterial aegerolysins [COBISS.SI-ID 4539512].
D.10 Educational activities
We have completed a patent application regarding the potential use of Pleurotus aegeroylsin-based pore-forming complexes as biopesticides against Colorado potato beetle, Western corn rootworm, and other coleopteran species belonging to the family Chrysomelidae (PCT/EP2017/074877). The application was filled on September 29, 2017.
F.06 Development of a new product
