We have developed several new experimental methods and devices for surface analysis. The surface analysis laboratory was established and Slovenian research community has on disposal the new high resolution analytical techniques such as: Field Emission Auger Electron Spectroscopy (FE AES), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) and lately Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE SEM) equipped by Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), Wave Dispersive Spectroscopy (WDS) and combination of ED/WD and Electron Backscattered Diffraction (EBSD) analytical techniques for nanostructure studies. The results of surface segregation studies of surface active elements, (residual impurities Sb, Sn; Se, S, P etc) in Fe-2%Si, 0.5% Al alloy were used in applicative research and development of new improved the production of non oriented electrical steels. Tha Laboratory of pressure metrology has been established on the national level. The new experimental method of testing vacuum heat treated or nitrided high speed steel tools based on toughness measurement has been established.
