The programme group has given a lot of thoughts to the topical questions of the Slovenian agriculture. The results lead to the improvement of the efficiency of Slovenian agriculture, to the improvement of its competitiveness and reduction of negative impacts of farming on the environment. The main beneficiaries of our research results were farmers, industry and policy makers. The group of agricultural economists was directly involved in preaccession negotiations with the EU. The results of the research were transferred to farmers either directly or through agricultural advisory service. During the programme funding the researchers published 564 expert papers and 40 manuals. They organised 17 conferences and gave 141 lectures for farmers and advisers. Some of the applicable achievements are mentioned below: - expert basis for preaccession negotiations with the EU, - expert basis for Eurostat harmonized economic accounts (EA) in the field of agriculture, - annual reports on the state of agriculture (green reports), - preparation of agricultural data base for the purposes of the analysis and modulation, - model calculations of costs in forage production and animal production, - a proposal of the system of direct payments for less favoured areas, - new variety of the Italian ryegrass, - a proposal of grass-clover mixtures for the Slovenian conditions, - manual for the fertilization on the basis of quick soil test, - slurry tank for a controlled deposition of slurry, - background and manuals for farming on water protected areas, national inventory of greenhouse gas and ammonia emissions from agriculture, - annual reports on testing varieties of field crops and lists of recommended varieties, - an information system in cattle production with direct internet access for advisory service and farmers, - catalogues of sires used for artificial insemination, - international accreditation of analytic methods for animal feeds, - manual for dairy cow feeding management on the basis of milk composition, - locally adjusted equations for the prediction of energy and protein value of forages for ruminants, - near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) calibrations for the prediction of composition and nutritive value of forages, - evaluation of the adequacy of pig genotypes for processing into special products, - background for pig fattening to increased weight for the purpose of dry-cured ham production, - evaluation of carcass and meat quality of the Slovenian local pig breed Krškopoljec, - development of the method for on-line pig carcass classification, - development of measurement device for the measurement of energy consumption in farm tractors during exploitation, - development of measurement devices for monitoring of mechanical soil damages, shearing strength and specific resistance of soil and - development of hydrostatic transmission and electronically controlled hitch system for the Slovenian tractor industry.
