The research of the program group is mostly basically oriented and contributes to the world treasury of knowledge. On the other hand, this enables use of this knowledge not only for the further development of science, but also for the transfer of this knowledge to the surroundings, which is of extreme importance for the sustainable development of Slovenia. A number of researchers trained within the frame of the program, left the group and went into other research laboratories or started with the pedagogical work at the University of Ljubljana where they represent the basis of the Chair of Biochemistry at The faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology. The Chair of Biochemistry is located at the JSI, where it is involved in both teaching and research activities. Other researchers who left joined the clinical laboratories of the hospitals or to the pharmaceutical industry. It is worth noting, that the whole program of diagnostics within the company Krka from Novo mesto evolved from the studies of proteolytic enzymes and their inhibitors. The tests based on monoclonal or polyclonal antibodies are used in the diagnosis of cancer. Krka company is financially supporting research of the program, which includes financial help in acquisition of new research equipment. Both Slovene pharmaceutical companies, Krka and Lek, have financially supported the setup of new laboratories for cell biology, which enable work according to the highest standards. Numerous undergraduate students from the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, Faculty of Pharmacy and the Biotechnical Faculty have finished their diploma works on the scientific subjects of the program. In addition, PhD students (young researchers) of the Interfaculty Studies of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology have been actively involved in the research activities of the program.
