Multilingual, normative and explanatory dictionaries compiled within the framework of this programme enable written and spoken communication on the international level, provide the means of staying in touch with scientific achievements in other parts of the world, and also support the translation of EU standards and legislation. The Pilot fascicle of the dictionary of the 16th century Slovenian Protestant writers presents the concept of a historical dictionary based on the complete corpus material. Due to specific linguistic information provided this reference work will also present a methodological contribution to lexicography in general. The vocabulary register of the 16th century Slovenian Protestant writers, which is in the phase of compilation, will - in combination with dictionary presentation - show the not yet truly recognized richness of expression in the literary Slovene language at the time of its emergence. The findings shed light on the history of Slovene literary language and contribute to linguistic and lexicographic theories.
