1. Different computer tools like information systems (IS) and more or less complex applications are with smaller adaptations appropriate for herd management on farms as well as for public services in agriculture. This software was developed as open source and as such acceptable for smaller farms, too. Regular recording and data analyses enable farmers and their advisers fast reactions on herd problems. The structure of the IS is adapted for monitoring animal genetic resources on the level of populations as well as for stored genetic material. 2. The VCE-5 package is used for education on graduate level. Our as well as foreign students visit these courses. International recognition by scientists and development groups of computer centers and agriculture enterprises was achieved through this. 3. The research work in the area of biometry covered development of statistical models. We developed the test-day model among the first in the world. It is used now for routine evaluation. Our specialities are models which are appropriate for smaller populations where prototypes from bigger populations fail. Independent quantitative variables should be modelled as regression, while for effects with small number of measurements per subclass should be treated as random. This type of models could be after smaller adaptations used for selection of livestock. 4. Research in slaughter traits and quality of animal products is necessary for production management as well as for appropriate treatment of animals and animal products on their path from farmer to consumer. On the other side, consumers should be informed and educated about different rearing systems, effects on animal welfare as well as quality and safety of human food. Outdoor production harder meets requirements about food safety, especially in contaminated environments and where the contact with wild animals is possible. 5. Methods for calculation of lean meat percentage and daily yields in milk traits are applied as routine procedures. There were offers from abroad to present them and help to implement for their practice. 6. The last area of studies enables to enrich the knowledge in animal welfare. The research from home and abroad proved that perception of animal welfare from human perspective is often wrong since it bases on knowledge of human welfare and behavior of wild relatives of livestock. The domestication caused that animal needs for food, space, microclimate, and weather protection changed. Intensive rearing in barren environment, as well as too real imitation of wild environment will have negative effect on animal welfare. There was not enough research done in this area so far. The studies of animal behavior and welfare are needed, even in small research groups like ours.
