Numerical models for simulation of transport and dispersion of pollutants, developed in the frame of the programme, have often been applied for solving practical problems of water quality problems in Slovene rivers, lakes and coastal sea, as e.g.: thermal pollution from thermo- and nuclear power plants in Sava River and its reservoirs, pollution of Idrijca and Soča Rivers with toxic mercury, several applications of water quality simulations in Slovene Lakes (Bled, Bohinj, Ptuj Lake, reservoirs on Sava and Drava Rivers). Sediment transport simulations are applied for solving erosion problems and filling of river reservoirs. The main goal in the future is that the end-users will solve their problems themselves with the application of the developed models. The models of flood wave simulations are applied for the forecast of floods and planning of protection against them, using different measures as construction of reservoirs or river regulation. New models, which were developed for the simulation of debris flow, have been effectively used for forecast of hazard zones in the regions of potential landslides in Slovenia (applications: Log pod Mangartom, Koseč near Kobarid). There are several other inhabited areas with potential debris flow hazard, where the mentioned models will have to be used, as eg. landslide Macesnik above Solčava or Slano Blato above Ajdovščina. In the field of urban hydrology, problems of inundations in Nova Gorica, Murska Sobota and other cities have been solved. Finally, the models can be used as an useful help at the water management. The methods of artificial intelligence are used at the development of ecological models on the basis of data analysis (several applications in Slovenia, e.g. algal growth in Lake Bled). Development of modern technology of waste- and drinking water treatment, application of numerical models for analysis of circulation and sedimentation processes in settling tanks of waste-water treatment plants, and experiments of these processes on pilot plants are also important for Slovenia.
