The research results on climate, soil, cities, countryside and regional development in Slovenia were applied when drafting various development plans at national and local level as well as at urban planning. The results were presented at numerous consultations, resulting in the basic project "Structural problems and developmental challenges of Slovene countryside in the European dimension" (MŠZŠ 2002). Achievements of direct importance for the development of Slovenia are the following: - the analysis of local and microclimatic conditions in Bohinj and Julijske Alpe, - the identification of areas subjected to burja in Trnovo forest, - the knowledge of soil from different parts of Slovenia, including evaluation of physical-geographical complex of Slovene landscapes, - the analysis of geoecological conditions for olive tree and the potentials for eventual spread of this culture, - the urban-geographical studies shall represent basis for the development of scientific research of social and functional structure and development processes of Slovene cities for the purposes of the planning thereof, - the monography "Geografija Ljubljane" represents means of the promotion of Ljubljana in a wider area, - the research of the Slovene countryside contributes to better knowledge of development problematic of the kind, - the studies of regional development, border areas contribute to making reasonable decisions in relation to development measures, - the cooperation of geography students, their introduction into scientific-research work and practical training was valuable.
