MRI is an important diagnostic tool, but in most cases it uses only morphological parameters in the evaluation of a disease processes. Our aim was to introduce fMRI in a clinical practice. This goal was achieved in the field of functional neuroimaging and cardiovascular imaging. Microcystins are ecotoxins found worldwide and also in waters in Slovenia. By showing the role of chronic exposure to minute amounts of microcystins and by establishing the lowest effective concentrations on human hepatocytes helps in establishing the maximal allowable concentrations of those substances in drinking water. Slovenian industry is relatively small and needs to find niches where it can use its advantages in flexibility and know-how. A prototype of a measuring device that can be used in high magnetic fields was developed, and collaboration with industrial partners has been established. Similar benefits may have also our new devices for measurements of muscle tension, turbine for measurement of cardiac output on working heart, and equipment for measurements of ECG and breathing in fish.
