The group has performed the regular monitoring of the quality of water used for dialysis purposed in twelve dialysis centers in Slovenia. The results indicated the water fulfills the required quality enabling safe dialysis for renal patients. The analysis of bone biopsies, serum and spent CAPD fluids showed that the dialysis patients are not exposed to toxic Al. The waste management is also important for the Slovenian environment. The group significantly contributed with the studies of the mobility of heavy metals in sewage sludge and safe disposal of these waste materials. The investigation of the environmental pollution with Pb, Zn and Cd in the Mežica valley applying speciation and fractionation procedures significantly contributed to the assessment of the extent of the pollution from the mining area. The selective extractions and normalization procedures were used to investigate the pollution along the Sava River with the aim to improve the river quality. The study of the environmental pollution of the Ljubljana city with PAH indicated the same level of pollution as reported for other European capitals. The results of the investigation of the Slovenian marine environment with PAH indicated on the presence of these highly toxic substances in the Slovenian sea water. This should be taken into consideration in the field of the Mari culture.
