For the first time, in a renowned international scientific journal (B. Krajnčič and J. Nemec: Journal of Plant Physiology 160, 143-151, 2003) the mechanisms were documented (results of the Atomic Absorption Spectrometer and microphotographs) through which EDDHA together with Mn, Zn, Cu - EDDHA chelates promotes photoperiodic floral induction, apex floral induction (evocation) and floral differentiation in such a way that flowering of all long-day plants Lemna minor is achieved. So far this has only been a theoretical assumption of the researchers of floral physiology. - New fundamental knowledge about structure and function of "embryonic" trophoblastic porcine interferon gamma in the time of embryo implantation. - New expression system of recombinant glycosylated interferon gamma in eukaryotic cell expression system as a relevant substitute for natural leukocytic interferon gamma. - Creation of the mammalian functional cell model in vitro, to be used in research of intestinal epithelia and underlying mucosal immune system that consists of porcine non-transformed cell lines that represent a relevant model for human as well. - New fundamental knowledge about surface glycan expression and distribution of intestinal epithelial, other epithelial cells and cells of immune system as well as determination of binding sites of some probiotic bacteria to intestinal epithelia and de novo synthesis of surface glycans of intestinal epithelial cells after interaction with probiotic bacteria. - New methods and knowledge in food safety and health management. Interspecific hybridisation included the following combinations: Cucurbita maxima X (C. argyrosperma X C. pepo), C. moschata X (C. argyrosperma X C. pepo) and ((C. moschata X (C. argyrosperma X C. pepo)) X C. pepo). The main objective was to transfer the genetically controlled trait 'naked seed' from C. pepo to C. maxima and C. moschata (which appear to be more resistant against some of the diseases and tolerant to environmental stress). By using C. argyrosperma as a 'genetic bridge', a four-species hybrid was created: (C. argyrosperma X C. pepo) X (C. argyrosperma X (C. maxima X C. moschata)). The work on the phaseolus beans was concentrated on the F2 genaration of the 'three-ispecies' hybrid (P. vulgaris X P. coccineus) X P. lunatus). - In the area of agricultural engineering we have developed in cooperation with a Slovene producer of lubrication oil Mapetrol and the Centre for tribology and technical diagnostic of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Ljubljana, an environmentally favourable oil which the composes fastly. - We have developed a computer model for optimization of cutting conditions in machining of rotating parts of agricultural machines. - On the basis of researches and tests of fertilizer spreaders we recommend the selection of spreaders having uniform spreading of fertilizer on the whole surface. - As a consequence of extensive researches into the machines for preparation of biomass in agriculture we recommend for the condition in Slovenia the use of small tractor-driven chopping machines for preparation of matchwood. New results in resarch of parasitic disease coccidiosis and the possibilty of alternative preventive programme with the use of vaccination. In Slovenia the prophylaxis of thise disease is still based on a rather questionable use of anticoccidial drugs added in the feed (the danger of remains in the meat, pollution of the envitonment).
