In the period 1999-2003 our group published 35 research articles in three main fields: 1. Studies of cholinesterases resulted in 10 articles, in which we discussed homotropic cooperativity of wild type and mutated insect enzymes, interactions of enzymes from fish with fasciculin and unusual activation of wild and mutated human butyrylcholin-esterase by tetramethylammonium. A number of developed kinetic schemes were summed into the universal kinetic model of the molecular mechanism of cholin-esterases. Additional 6 articles deal with new theoretical aspects of slow inhibition. 2. In 8 articles we discuss the interaction of receptors (for galanin, glucagon-like peptide-1, histamin, and progesterone) with G-proteins., as well as the interaction of G-proteins with synthetic (PD-1), chimeric (vasopressin-mastoparan), and natural ("Alzheimer's" beta-amyloid peptide) peptides. We have identified the intracellular domains of receptors for the interaction with G-proteins and type(s) of G-proteins involved in their signal transduction. We have also characterized the mechanism of interaction between G-proteins and used peptides, clarifying in this way their physiological effects. 3. In the field of vector peptides (cell penetrating peptides), we have published 2 articles; one review article is in press. We have demonstrated new types of vector peptides and determined the kinetics of their penetration into the cells - naked or conjugated with different drugs and other cargo molecules (biotin, peptides, fragments of DNA and PNA and proteins). We have contributed also in development of vector peptides with specific physiological effects (i.e. control of blood pressure) that are promising potential drugs. The results of these studies are included in the patent application, filed in Europe, USA and Canada. Additionally we have contributed in the research of kerotinosis, cytochrome P-450, cathepsins and hydroxysteroid-dehydrogenases that was published in 8 articles. In all this work, our group collaborated with different research groups from France, Sweden, UK, Belgium, Estonia, Croatia, USA and Germany.
