fMRI study of motor skill learning revealed the pattern of reorganization of cortical activation maps during motor skill learning. The results also showed that patients with muscular dystrophies and patients after CVI activate broader cortical regions during movement planning and execution. Contrary to normal volunteers those patients activate large regions of anterior frontal cortex and parietal cortex. Ecotoxins, in particular the microcystins are an important risk for human health due to their hepatotoxicity and carcinogenic as well as tumor promoting potential. The goal of the study was to elucidate the mechanisms of microcystins. Action in vivo and on the cellular level. The results showed that chronic application of microcystins causes not only the known hepatotoxic and carcinogenic effect but also potent nephrotoxic effects and disorders of embryonic development. We were also the first research group to publish the results of MCLR - induced toxic effects on human hepatocytes. The study of cytolytic toxins, especially alpha staphilotoxin and equinatoxins revealed important differences in the action of those toxins. Mechanisms of cell volume regulation and the role of Na/Ca exchanger were studied by use of EqT II. The study has also revealed the mechanism of cardiotxic actions of EqT II and EqT III.
