Legend
fter completing his studies in wood science and technology, Miha Humar joined the Faculty of Biotechnics, where he later completed his doctoral studies and was awarded the Jesenko Prize for the best PhD student. After completing his PhD, he initially worked as an assistant professor at the faculty and in 2015 became a full professor in the field of wood pathology and protection. In 2016, he became Dean of the Faculty of Biotechnics, and in 2018, Vice-Dean. Humar is an active member of several scientific and editorial boards. Together with Hojka Kraigher, he has been responsible for the organisation of the annual scientific meeting Forest and Wood since 2009. He has coordinated several ARRS applied and CRP projects and their research programmes. He has published his findings in more than 240 scientific papers, 170 of them in impact factor journals. He is also co-author of two international patents. These patents led to the development and commercialisation of the biocidal product Silvanolin, which is still the most important product for industrial wood impregnation in Slovenia. The current research deals with the problems of evaluating wood service life and developing classical biocidal and non-biocidal solutions for wood protection. For these purposes, he has set up the first comprehensive field site where field trials are being carried out. In 2022, he organised the 53rd Annual Conference on Wood Protection (International Research Group for Wood Protection IRG/WP) in Bled, for which he was awarded the honorary title of Congress Ambassador. He has received several awards for his work. He has received the Puh Award for Innovation, the Biotechnical Faculty Award, the Special Recognition of the Slovenian Association of Woodworkers, the Biotechnical Faculty Commendation for his successful teaching work, the Award for the Best Innovation from R&D Organisations at the Innovation Forum (2014), the Puh Award for Achievements in Woodworking, the Golden Plaque of the University of Ljubljana (2019), the Commendation of the Forestry Institute of Slovenia for Outstanding Scientific and Professional Cooperation, etc. He is an associate member of the Slovenian Academy of Science and Arts.
