Povzetek
The aim of the project Education for Contemporary Citizenship of Europe (ECCE) is to develop a curriculum for social science students on EU citizenship. The project will concentrate on the main normative as well as empirical dilemmas associated with the citizenship of the EU and will put forward the main ideas and discussions related to the Union citizenship. The project focuses on EU citizenship and and addresses the contemporary phenomenon of radicalization. Students for whom the project is developed only marginally cover the European Union within their core curriculum (even within the European studies) as their programmes limit EU-related topics to basic information regarding EU institutions and policies. ECCE addresses the need for a more structured and holistic comprehension of citizenship with elements of citizenship education (in terms of political literacy and basic dispositions; see Keating, 2016). It is set to achieve the goals set by acquainting students with the concepts of civil, political and social citizenship in the context of the EU and shall also focus on different tendencies (e.g. free movement, dem. deficit). The research on political scientist’s profession reveals that many of our students are employed in public administration, but increasing lack of knowledge, skills and competence in terms of performing their work at their workplace when the work assignments deal with the European Union. ECCE will also introduce and promote a toolkit for teaching and learning (EU) citizenship as well as allow the Chair holder to be supported by a team of experts in civic education and e-learning. High quality teaching programme will be provided by introduction of the newest literature and research results into the content of the course, multidisciplinary approach to the content of the courses and by introduction of new pedagogical approaches – flipped classroom. Moreover, the course will also be on offer as an open educational blended learning resource.
