Povzetek
The programme allows students of the College of Further Education in Hilden (Berufskolleg Hilden des Kreises Mettmann), who are being trained as biological laboratory assistants, to spend their work placement in universities and research companies in other European coutries. The placement of thirteen weeks is an integrated part of the course. During the placement the students can experience the organization of life science companies and laboratories. The students experience, how important it is to work in a reliable, efficient as well as economic way. The students gain an insight into the everyday routine of a laboratory and acquire new methods or just more experience in applying what they had already learned. Apart from the specialist aspects of the placement, the students gain communicative and intercultural advancements. Teamwork with colleagues of various cultural backgrounds is important to develop or increase the students’ intercultural competence. Moreover their language skills are promoted, above all with respect to specialist language. In 2010 19 students spent their placement in various workgroups of Research Institutes and Universities in Finland, England, Sweden, Norway, Slovenia, Netherlands and Ireland. The students had to participate in the routine work of the laboratories. They had a supervisor, who trained them in the application of some commonly used methods of the laboratory. They worked on a project of their own while still taking part in the routine work. The students had to write a report about one aspect of their work, which was handed in November 2010.Apart from the supervision within the laboratory, a school supervisor was appointed who once visited the students. Evaluation of the programme is ensured through the Leonardo beneficiary’s report and a report about the placement which is thoroughly assessed and marked by the school. The students related their experience within a meeting with the first-year students of the course and presented the project to the public during the last “information day” of the BK Hilden.Validation is ensured by various official documents and the “Europass Mobility”.The project participates in the ECVET piloting process. Learning outcomes had been defined with the Finnish partner in advance and had been documented in the Europass.
