Povzetek
The reason for the project (the main topic being addressed or breakthrough being pursued)The main aim of the proposed European Module is to focus on a topic, which has been occupying legal practitioners and academics in the recent years. The Module will concentrate on specific issues that arise when Member States and other entities justify their violation of fundamental freedoms by invoking the need for protection of human rights of their citizens.• The core objectives to be achievedThe proposed Module focuses on the evolution of the EU from a regional economic integration into a full political union, committed to human rights protection. The balancing of economic values with human rights values presents the future EU direction towards a more democratic organisation, based on a close dialogue with its citizens. This topic can thus serve as a starting point to explore the EU integration (involving economic and social aspects) and presenting some of more significant EU legal rules to groups with no previous knowledge of EU Law, while at the same time including questions that are more profound, and as such appealing also to students with a certain basic EU legal knowledge.• A concise description of the outputs, results and / or productsThe module will be based upon lectures, performed by the faculty’s teaching staff as well as by several visiting professors. In addition to this, more than forty per cent of the time will be dedicated to workshops and case studies with the aim of critical understanding and practical applicability of the knowledge acquired. A Module Handbook will be prepared to enable the students’ up to date guidelines for studying. Regular teaching activities will be supplemented by round tables, where specific topical issues will be discussed. The impact envisaged.Within University of Maribor there are still numerous groups of students, who do not study EU Law and do not have any knowledge on the European integration
