Povzetek
We are proposing to create an elective module available to students of law. The module would cover European migration and refugee law, an area which has so far not been covered by the course offering in any of the Slovenian law schools. There is a clear need for such a module at this moment, however, given the political and legal developments in this policy area. This is especially true for Slovenia, a country at the external Schengen border.In all of the activities of the module, the interplay between the different legal systems involved (national, international and European law) will be highlighted. The discussions and presentations will emphasise the relevance of the European integration processes for the development of this area of law.The module will consist of lectures, seminars, roundtables, a website and an e-textbook. It will involve a visiting lecturer as well as practitioners (a judge and an attorney) who will deliver practical seminars where students will solve problems encountered in day-to-day refugee and migration legal practice. This will turn the proposed module into a specialized course of direct career relevance to future legal professionals. Roundtables will be open to the public and the students participating in the module will be expected to actively attend. In this manner, we will facilitate dialogue with the civil society, a wider circle of stakeholders and the interested public. We plan to record the roundtables and offer the videos through an established science video repository so as to enable wide access to the knowledge disseminated in these events. With the development of an e-textbook, the first textbook on this subject in Slovenian language, we plan to create a solid base for the mainstreaming of this module and potential establishment of similar courses in other Slovenian universities. Especially so as the e-textbook will be freely available from the module website and other repositories.
