A novel miniatiruzed high voltage surge arrester

Povzetek

Surge arrestors are used for protection of electrical distribution network against over voltage and damages of lightning. The arrestors currently available in the market satisfy the international standards (IEC 60099-4) but their drawbacks include a short lifetime and large dimensions. Due to the ageing effects an arrestor has to be replaced in 5-7 years after being installed. This causes enormous expenses to electricity distribution companies. Taking into account that there are about 10 million 25 kV arresters in Europe and each costs130 Euro, only direct costs of replacing arrestors amount over 1 million Euros, let alone the indirect costs. Furthermore, the used arrestors cannot be recycled so they make a lot of waste. In order to decrease the costs of replacing, the amount of waste and the consumption of resources for producing arrestors, novel arrestors with an increased lifetime and decreased dimensions will be developed and introduced into production.
