Abstract
The subject of the investigation includes improvements of in-house developed mathematical models and software tools for prediction of processes in pulverized coal-fired furnace and steam boiler, numerical analysis of the furnace processes and the steam boiler operation with respect to energy efficiency and emission, optimization of rotary air preheater geometry with the aim to increase the boiler efficiency and investigation of the impact of optimized preheater on the furnace operating conditions. The following results of research are expected: new, advanced version of in-house developed software tool for simulation of processes in pulverized coal furnace (with new and improved submodels of individual phenomena and processes, such as turbulence, radiation heat transfer, NOx and SO2 formation and destruction and fouling of screen walls), examination of possibilities of NOx and SO2 emission reduction in utility steam boiler pulverized coal-fired furnace by modifying the furnace processes and optimization of the proposed measures (keeping, or even increasing the boiler efficiency), new software tool for thermal and hydraulic calculation of steam boiler with the purpose of verification of the boiler operation safety after application of the emission control measures, new software tool for calculation of rotary air preheater and increase in energy efficiency of the preheater, taking into account its impact on energy and ecology efficiency of processes in the furnace.
